Larry Smith, RLS

Larry was born and raised in Bismarck, North Dakota. He graduated from the University of Mary in 1971 with a Bachelor’s Degree in History. In 1973, he accepted a position as a land surveyor with Swenson, Hagen & Co. Larry enjoyed the historical research necessary to become an effective surveyor, and found that his strong people skills made him a leader within the surveying department. Eventually he progressed to the position of Director of Surveys and today Larry is Vice President of Swenson, Hagen & Co.

Larry has extensive experience with Cadastral Surveys and is very familiar with the Public Land System of the Western States. He can provide valuable insight into effectively retracing public land surveys and re-establishment of lot and section corners. Larry also has experience in product liability cases, in which he served as an expert witness for such clients as GM, Chrysler, Suzuki, Yamaha, and Polaris.

Larry also has vast experience with the National Flood Insurance Program. His expertise with elevation certificates for flood insurance are essential for communities living adjacent to water bodies, such as Bismarck.

Larry holds licensure in both North and South Dakota. He was awarded the Survey Excellence Award by the North Dakota Society of Professional Land Surveyors (NDSPLS) in 2004.

Larry is a member of the Morton County Dive Rescue Team and is also involved with the Huff Hills Ski Patrol. When he is not riding off-road motorcycles with his son Steven, or skiing with his wife Mary, you can probably find him tinkering with one of his tractors. His collection of antique Massey-Harris tractors would impress any farm equipment enthusiast.
